Overview of iPad 2
Setting Up the iPad
Everyone will need:
  1. Apple ID
    How to create an iTunes Account http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2731
  2. iTunes - iCloud are two ways to backup the iPad
    • iTunes Accounts - School accounts only - generic accounts will be created by tech department for use - No personal accounts allowed, per Acceptable Use Policy.
  3. App Store - Download iBooks app to the iPad
    • Free Apps - Teachers can download on thier own iPad using a district account for iTunes created for each teacher
    • Purchased Apps (Ones with a cost associated with them) - Teachers will received redemption codes for generic district paid for apps while teachers requesting a paid for app will complete an iPad/iPod app form to purchase. These forms will be reviewed by the building administrator.
  4. Active Email Address is required to download and install apps
    1. Setup email accounts – Teachers will need to finalize email accounts with user names and passwords
    2. Dropbox/Google account –Teachers will need to create accounts with user names and passwords.
    3. Any Apps that need account creation – setup will be addressed.

Getting Online - Access will be configured for school. Normal process for accessing wireless will be addressed for off of school property

Getting around on the iPad
- Multitouch gestures (see user manual for all of the gestures)
- Working with browser(s)
- Other browsers (Diigo / Chrome / Skyfire / etc.) - There are browsers that allow Flash to play.
- Keyboard Shortcuts - http://ipadnotebook.wordpress.com/tag/shortcuts/
- Projecting the iPad
- Cable/Case - Will be provided by district. If lost, teacher responsible for replacement.
- Technical requests will go through School Dude system

Teachers:

- May take home iPads
- You are responsible for any damage or theft - see district policy
- Remember - it needs to be charged to work
- Location services will be enabled
- There will be a Passcode for accessing the device
- Working with browser(s) - Review how to bookmark and save sites.
  1. Requirements:
    • Develop lesson plans to integrate and use the iPads institutionally.
      • A lesson per making period - equivalent of a 42 minute class
      • Lessons could include worksheets, games, iBook Author content, iMovie, etc...
